AKC Scent Work Trial

February 10 & 11, 2023, in Jamul, CA, an AKC Scentwork trial was held. Tin Roof ACDs had two teams entered. We had Gavin & I, and Mya & Andy. There are different levels to pass and each level has four different elements. The elements include: containers, buried, interior and exterior. The dog must qualify in each element three times to receive a title in that element. The dog and handler have to obtain all 3 Q's in all four elements to obtain the title for that entire level.

Gavin and I were entered in Novice Interior, and Advanced Container, Buried, & Exterior. We qualified in interior and we won third place! That qualification completed Gavin's SWN title. Later on we qualified in Advanced Buried, and Advanced container (4th place). We were unable to complete the advanced exterior search. On Sunday, we were able to qualify in excellent level container, and also q'd in Advanced interior (7th place). We did not Q on the buried or exterior on Sunday.

Mya and Andy were entered in Novice Buried, Novice interior, and Novice Exterior. Andy has not been in Scentwork lessons or more than a trial or two. He was willing and brave enough to handle Mya at the trial. Not only did they qualify in all three novice elements they were challenged with, but they were first place in the buried with a time of 3.59 seconds! Mya achieved her SWN (Scentwork Novice Title).

On Sunday, they Q'd in all four elements of Advanced. Out of 37 teams in the advanced exterior search, Mya and Andy were 1 of 5 teams to qualify, and they placed 3rd! They were 9th place in Adv Buried. I am so proud of them! I can't even put it into words how excellent they did!!!

I am very blessed to have a husband willing to not only go to the trials with me, but be a handler for the weekend and participate with me too. It was a great trial. 🥰 I'm really proud of all of us! Thanks to the Obedience Club of San Diego County and it's members for putting on such a great event as always. The training and practice will continue for the next one! Stay tuned.
